Just to be clear..  it might be possible to join two DB2 tables from 
separate systems, or two SQL Server tables from separate systems...  but 
you'll never be able to join a SQL Server table to a DB2 Table.

Why not?  Because they're handled by separate query engines.  The DB2 
query engine doesn't know how to use a SQL Server table or index.  The 
SQL Server query engine doesn't know how to use a DB2 table or index.
