David,

I think Charles is just saying that both forms have their benefits and
drawbacks, and so they should both be able to work.

Maybe I'm lost, but what exactly is difficult to follow without comments?
Are you referring to my original example:

SELECT Customer.Type;
WHEN 'A';
...
WHEN 'B' or 'C' or 'D';
...
WHEN 'E' or 'F';
...
OTHER;
...
ENDSL;

If so, it seems to me that it's only as difficult to follow as you make
it...

I disagree....

Sometimes my path depends on seemingly unrelated things...

I want both forms to work.

And MUCH nicer than :

WHEN SomethingThatHasNothingToDoWithCustomer.Slipper = 'E';
...
OTHER;
...
ENDSL;

Which would no longer compile :-)

Charles, I am surprised as you are such an advocate for self-documenting
code. Such a SELECT group would be difficult to follow without comments.
Dare I say impossible, looking at the above example.
