pretty sure there's no easier way to do this...no any way to do the mapping
any faster.

But from a performance standpoint, assuming you are using RPG WRITEs..
- if your work file is journaled, make sure you turn on commitment control
and commit so often. ideally after generating just under 128KB of journal
entires...
