Kind of a moot point since I solved the problem, but looks like it's Java from now on for XML processing.

No Richard I haven't - I gave up once I found how badly the examples were written. (i.e. C code converted to RPG syntax %Alloc and all) At the time I was investigating for a client who was willing to pay for a solution so they purchased a third-party solution in the end. They had used a Java solution previously but the performance would not support the kind of volumes they required.
