Birgitta's approach will not work until you are at least on V6.

I know I published something that was even more directly related to this but I can't find it. The basic idea is to use XML-INTO to grab the "bulk" of the data and then use XML-SAX to parse the document this time picking up the field(s) you had to omit during the XML-INTO parse.

But of course the "real" solution is to move to a supported release <grin>
