Not new at all. You could always leave a program using RETURN, with
or without LR.

Do you have a RETURN in your program? If so, the compiler isn't going
to complain, because it assumes you will execute it eventually. But
if it's buried in an IF block whose condition never evaluates true, or
you've got some infinite loop somewhere, etc., then the RETURN never
gets executed.
