Probably about as many as are using only Java!
IMO, no one in their right mind is replacing entire application suites
of home-grown software with Java, much less PHP.
We have a 20-30 year repository of code in our applications. It all
still works, of course. It's written in CL and RPG (III & IV with some
elements of II).
It isn't going away. Do we want to modernize presentation? Yes. We're
starting to do that now with the SEQUEL reporting and query product.
I may have to temper my statement above a little - there has to be a
very very good reason to justify throwing out such a repository as we
have - many companies have the same kind of thing.
I think PHP is great for what it can do - it can nicely expand the
viability of this platform, with things like SugarCRM that can basically
just be dropped in place and work.
And RPG is still alive and well, contrary to any mis-statements you may
have caught. It is much more alive than the parrot in that Monty Python
sketch!
If you get a chance, if your company will support training, consider
attending one of the RPG&DB2 Summit conferences that are given by Jon
Paris, Susan Gantner, and Paul Tuohy - many sessions on PHP. And many
sessions on RPG and DB2 and SQL.
And you'll hear the truth there - not the confusing things you seem to
have been told - and keep on participating here - I've learned so much
over the last 16 years I've been involved with these lists.
