If I'm not mistaken, I think "single page" subfile allows conditioned attributes to be applied. Any other form, which involves loading the subfile in its entirety (load all, or load on page down styles) cannot cache the conditioning indicators to allow this.
Single page subfiles work REALLY well for SQL SCROLL CURSOR, by the way. This is typically how I do my subfiles these days (when I still get to do new 5250 apps).
