further on: adding a new field, providing a LF without this field with the same name and record layout as before, normally won't hurt existing programs (as long as the don't do file operations. Doing it this way, you won't even need triggers. Just create a SQL table and add a timestamp field not null with default current_timestamp and create a DDS LF without that field. If there are additional LFs, you would have to change these appropriate, so that they don't see this field.
