Have you tried writing to the File name instead of the Format name?

Well, if you'll note, (1) the file is opened as externally-described, which requires the WRITE to be passed a record name, (2) there is an EXTFILE clause, . . .

FMIMEBODY O E DISK USROPN EXTDESC('MERCURY/QCLSRC')
F EXTFILE('QTEMP/MIMEBODY')
F EXTMBR('DFT')

. . . and (3) it only fails sporadically.

My understanding is that with an EXTDESC clause or a RENAME clause on a file, the format name to use in WRITE and UPDATE statements is what RPG thinks the format name is, i.e., the one from the EXTDESC file, or the one assigned in the RENAME.
