A few years back I set up some rules based on

http://cpsr.org/prevsite/cpsr/privacy/ssn/ssn.structure.html/

It's a place to start anyway.

When the SSA changed to use numbers over 777 I had to re-work our edits.

Subject: TaxID validation resources

Does anyone know what the rules are for validation of US Social Security number/TaxID#? Is there a webservice available? Is there one place (internet link) where I can go to that would like the "rules" that a number must pass in order to be a validly formed SS# (not necessarily active/assigned to someone, just correct formation of numbers)?

I looked on the internet, but there does not seem to be one concise place to go to that is official.

Thank you,

Doug
