Indeed he did not. He used an assembly language that he invented
specifically for those books. The point of using assembly was so that
it's more transparent how "expensive" an algorithm is. Naturally,
folks have since developed actual implementations to run his invented
assembly. :)

Actually, that's how Lisp was born, too.
