John,

This is possible and in fact very easy to do. Here is a quick synopsis:

1. Make sure the files are journaled.
2. In a CL, STRCMTCTL before calling your RPG program (or opening the file).
3. Put the COMMIT keyword on the file spec of the file you want to use commitment control on.
4. Use the COMMIT and ROLBK opcodes in your RPG program to commit or rollback any database I/O.

Here is an article to help you out. http://www.mcpressonline.com/rpg/update-your-data-with-peace-of-mind-using-commitment-control.html

Subject: RPGLE I/O opcodes with commit/rollback

I got into a heated conversation today about using the write / update / delete opcodes (not embedded SQL) and doing commits / rollbacks. I said it could not be done but the other guy said he has done it. He said he wrote RPG code that did opcode writes and updates (again, not via SQL) and was able to do rollbacks to remove the data from the write / update.

Does anyone know of any way of doing this?
