I've seen a lot of people saying the Free & end-free must be in column 7.

When the new free format was introduced, which I believe was around V7R1 TR7, this no longer became a requirement.

The /FREE and /END-FREE are NOT limited to column 7.

From the 7.1 ILE RPG Reference Manual I have downloaded this note is on page 3-8:

"Directives can begin in column 7 or later."

Looks like Kurt types faster...
