Thinking this one through, many years ago I found a similar situation and
the reason I found was the programmer needed to break up the field like you
would in a data structure. It was probably code from RPG II that was
upgraded and the programmer had not been introduced to data structures.
Hence the use of the UF. They could have used IF too.
