You really should try it some, go online and see all the material on 
XMLTABLE - this is not exclusive to IBM i - it is functionality 
supported in all manner of RDBMS.

Basically you specify a level in the hierarchical structure as a 
starting point - kind of like a root directory, except you can name 
other nodes both above and below the root. You can use .. (double-dot) 
to refer to something above.

You specify the columns using references to nodes within the root, and 
above, if needed.
