Thanks Birgitta. Your answer and a little sleep made the answer more obvious I was able to move the buffer into the CLOB. It looked like gobley gook even though I had defined the CLOB with a CCSID of 1208.
I added this line and the CLOB moved to the database table cleanly.
Exec Sql
Declare :JSONClob Variable CCSID 1208;
I was also able to take the version that wrote to the IFS and use the get_clob_from_file function to write to the table.
Lots of variations.
