If <program> is RPGLE...

You don't need the OVRDBF...

simply use EXTFILE('QTEMP/MYOUTFILE') on the f-spec...

Alternatively, you can have
dcl-f MYOUTFILE disk extdesc('QSYS/QADSPFFD');

Take DSPFFD as an example. The template file in QSYS is QADSPFFD.

Why not compile your program against QADSPFFD? Then, at execution time:

DSPFFD FILE(MYFILE) OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) OUTFILE(QTEMP/MYOUTFILE)
OVRDBF FILE(QADSPFFD) TOFILE(QTEMP/MYOUTFILE)
CALL <program>

You shouldn't need to be doing a CRTDUPOBJ at all.

I used to be able to do CRTDUPOBJ from QSYS into QTEMP for the
outfiles but it seems this is now locked down to secofr.
I dont want to use secofr owner programs. Is there a better way, I
seem to recollect there was something?
