VALUES INTO is always a better choice than SELECT INTO .... FROM SYSDUMMY1

Since it doesn't require DB access (or OPEN/CLOSE)

Additionally, if your list statement is dynamic, then you can't use SELECT
INTO

  dcl-s myfld char(1) inz('A');
  dcl-s results char(1);

  exec sql
    values (case when :myFld in ('A','B','C')
                   then '1'
                   else '0'
             end) into :results;
