Another occasion to point out that a) I'm what might today be called a retrocomputing hobbyist and b) V4R5 does only support positional RPG. :-)

I am not an RPG historian, but I believe that even in V4R5, you had
features such as "extended factor 2" and the %SCAN BIF, so you don't
have to deal with the SCAN opcode and its array output if you don't
want to.
