Hi I have found an answer to my question.

After fumbling my way through the manual and various help guides I came
across this youtube video.
I hope I am not breaking a Midrange rule by including a link.

IMO this is a most excellent video takes about half an hour. Told me
all I needed to know.
I now avoid the GIT GUI
