Never ever code record locks that persist longer than 1 second.
Fix the program holding a persistent record lock to release the lock before it displays the next screen panel.
There are far better ways to check for record changes done before the update, or simply accept the change from elsewhere.
In 30 years of coding this strategy never failed.
Otherwise one ends up coding all sorts of convoluted constructs that always ultimately fail.
