I think you should still be able to download things with the version 6 Personal Communications. It was always possible with it before. And it can still communicate with the host servers.

Now Mark is right, it is better if you were to get ACS installed. That product even has a Spooled File (Printer output) tool, and from there you can download directly into a text file or maybe a PDF - not copying to a flat file.

I admit, I have to ask about putting spooled file content into Excel - rows and columns are not consistent in spooled files, hardly ever.

And if you are getting junk, that won't change, so far as I know, if you use the more current data transfer tooling. Eric mentioned the 65535 conversion, and maybe other settings.

Also, I'm thinking that FTP could be used against the flat file - pull that down with ASCII transfer type, and you have a text file from the flat file, converted nicely.

But that's a distraction - you should get the new ACS client, but if not, find a setting to help, as Eric has suggested.
