Hi Jay,

first - yes, it's easier with concrete source code - not with explanations.

But some ideas for diagnosing your problem:

1. get rid of the SQL statements

Just comment out the offending exec sql and try to compile. Sometimes the RPG compiler will complain about double definitions from DDS (CHAR 10 in one record CHAR 15 in another) - the SQL/PC doesn't say the problem - it only tells you, that he has a problem.

2. get rid of the DSPF

Define the necessary fields locally and try to compile.

Maybe this will lead you into the right direction.

I get you Patrik, but really this is a very siimple one to describe.

And that's the point. From "describing", you're not providing the actual text where you accidentally might have done a mishap which constantly slips your view. Note: This is not an accusation, but just to emphasize my PoV. I have been in similar situations myself. You look at something a dozen times and don't see what is there but see what you expect. That's just human. :-)

this happens on 7.2 but not 7.4

Well, I can just say that I've used SQL on 7.2 to shove data into a DSPF, and that worked. The database field was a char (not: varchar!) field created through DDS (if this matters for any reason), and the DSPF field was a stock char field.

I don't have access to that anymore, because some time ago I've reworked the application to use an LF with READ instead of SQL, so the application starts quickly on older machines, also.
