Dear IBM: if you make us learn completely new toolsets *and* abandon what
we've learned--in other words, if you don't feed us a few bananas--we will
become AWS developers, make a jillion bucks a year, and take up a new
hobby: getting V5R4 machines to IPL.

Product planners are notoriously detached from reality. Products that
solve problems make profits. Whiz-bangy stuff gets ignored. Just saying.

Why should I feed the monkey bananas if it doesn't like bananas?

:-) Happy new year!

IBM correctly set the direction.

They've been saying "API API API" for about 15 years in both IBM i space
and mainframe space.

They've dedicated what, for Rochester, amounts to a startling amount of
resources to Open Source for over a decade.

AND DID WE LISTEN ... by and large, No. So off spit-spot to your beds
without supper!

Happy New Year. Now get busy, factor your legacy applications into service
programs, put an API face on them, and write your web applications
off-platform calling those APIs.

"And no nonsense out of you, hear?!" 🙂

"it is IBM's job to set the direction"? I don't disagree at all ... but
I fear that boat sailed long ago. Maybe part of the problem is the
community didn't get on board as the boat left port? Who knows ... we
are where we are.
