An additional benefit of using screens in RDi - you can save them with different data sets, including indicators.

Hi Brian

I have sometimes used the "preview" function, I usually would enter STRSDA, prompt it, and take option 3. One can do the same in PDM with the 17 option, prompt it there.

But I was about to mention to Patrik the ability to create screens in RDi - it is, IMHO, very similar to STRSDA opt 3, in that you add record formats in both cases. In the latter, you can enter test data - I've not found a way to enter multiple rows of a subfile, and you can only add test data for the final record being written out.

In RDi, we can create - I believe - data for everything, including rows of a subfile - and the output of these will look very much like the 5250 screen.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand, Patrick. Assuming you're in Work with Members, PDM option 17). is the same as STRSDA OPTION(1) - i.e Work with Display Records.

The "preview" function would be STRSDA OPTION(3) - i.e. Test Display Files. Is this what you mean by SPA? (RDi Screen Designer has a Preview function as well.)

You say RDi is not an option for you. Is this because you don't have access to it?

We've known for some time that this was going to happen:

Admittedly RDi Screen Designer does not provide support for Menu design, (STRSDA OPTION(2)) - which is unfortunate.

Brian.

For many years the Screen Designer and Report Designer tools within RDi have been much better options for generating the DDS than SDA and RLU. (Just my opinion.)
Some people use SDA not for designing screens (which is cumbersome, IMHO), but as "SPA" (Screen Preview Agent), through PDM option 17. I'm one of those. RDI is not an option for me.
