I'm afraid I don't quite understand, Patrick. Assuming you're in Work with Members, PDM option 17). is the same as STRSDA OPTION(1) - i.e. Work with Display Records.

The "preview" function would be STRSDA OPTION(3) - i.e. Test Display Files.

Hah! Thanks for pointing out. I completely had forgotten about that. And revisited this function to remember: Doesn't work with Subfiles. At least not with V4R5. :-)

Is this what you mean by SPA? (RDi Screen Designer has a Preview function as well.)

Not necessarily. PDM Option 17 indeed runs the "editor", but I don't do any editing when providing option 12 for a recfmt. Just looking.

In parallel I have a shell window open where I edit DDS via vim ftp://myi/lib/file.mbr (namefmt 0). A workflow which has proven to

You say RDi is not an option for you. Is this because you don't have access to it?

Yes. And I'm not really used to IDEs. Coming from the Unix world, a convenient editor and a Makefile satisfy my hobbyist (!) needs.

We've known for some time that this was going to happen:

Yes, I'm aware. Because I'm speaking as a hobbyist, I could not care less about what IBM does to current releases. :-)

Admittedly RDi Screen Designer does not provide support for Menu design, (STRSDA OPTION(2)) - which is unfortunate.

See my answer to Jeff.

At first I also created DDS menus, because it was very straightforward in SDA. Much later, I wanted to add help text, and that was an annoying experience.

In the meantime, I had become quite fluent in creating help *PNLGRPs for DDS *DSPFs. So it was no big step for me to eventually learn about UIM menus.

Took me maybe one hour to read about UIM menus, trying things out, and coming up with a template.

I won't go back to DDS menus, and do not miss them. :-)

:wq! PoC
