When you have offices from the Caribbean to Hawaii and the contiguous US it is more costly to do redundant lines as you pointed out. we have a satellite dish on each office and with the latency of a transmission back to a central would slow the users work down tremendously. What does the user do when they are servicing a customer and the customer wants a traction completed for a purchase. If you can't service them they will go elsewhere. We do have Central systems (about 30) for various purposes and a zSeries. A DR could be for a number of things. The most frequent one is a drive crash. In August after the CE dried out the system (so he thought) he turned on and it started smoking. When he opened the drive water poured out. We have a DR going on one of our local QA servers now.
