VPN is very inexpensive but lacks dependability.  We use VPN to connect all
our remote sites to our network.  You are at the mercy of your ISP and your
VPN devices.  Perhaps we chose poorly, but it seems like we have problems
with both.  We probably loose connectivity with 2 sites a week for an hour
or so each time.  My advice would be to not skimp on your devices and look
for dependability from your ISP.

We had much less downtime when we were using frame relay connections.
However, this is a much pricier option.  It was remarkable to ever loose
connectivity to a site using this technology.  Maybe 2 outages a year.
