My main issue now is, if I pull something from a location, why is it
pushed somewhere else?
Yesterday I downloaded an SEU user options program that used F7 to
split/join lines because I wanted to see how it worked. I first saved
it to the PC hard drive. Then I opened it with the LPEX editor and
tried a "Save as" to the iSeries. I drilled down to where I wanted it
to go and saved it. Or so I thought. No error message. Couldn't find
in on the iSeries anywhere. Gave up after a half dozen tries with no
errors, yet no member showed up on the iSeries.
This seemed like a very straightforward thing to do where an experienced
iSeries and Windows user like myself does not need to look it up in the
help. I ended up being frustrated instead.
Then I went and duplicated an _existing_ member on the iSeries with SEU.
Then I went back to the LPEX editor and opened this new member for
editing. Next, within the LPEX editor, I did a copy from the initial PC
file and a paste to the iSeries member. Finally I saved that iSeries
member. (The program actually works well after I compiled it.)
Ya know, I really like what they're trying to do with WDSC, but I seem
to spend a lot of time 'thrashing' in order to get a little done.
My long term fear is that so much is being attempted to fit into WDSC
for so many languages and back end systems, that it will not be the most
efficient for _any_ of those systems and ultimately collapse under it's
own weight. Sort of like trying to be all things for all people and end
up pleasing no one.
