A week or so ago I lost my internet and local network connection after
installing wdsci on my pc at home. I assumed that it was related to the
install because it worked before the install and didn't work after. It
wasn't a good assumption--it just seemed logical.

What really happened was that feline activity had made the jack on my
network card unreliable. It just hadn't become quite unreliable enough
until the moment I tried to download the service packs after installing
wdsci. I swapped in the nic from my linux pc and was able to connect fine.

I've revoked the cats' tv privileges for two weeks and withdrew their
chenille mice from circulation. They show no signs of remorse.

BTW, I do have a problem if I allow the Communications Daemon to start when
I boot. I just removed it from the startup config. I can live with that.
