If the source is open, try clicking on the source. It appears, to me at
least, that when the source has lost focus the compile option is not
available. This usually happens to me when I click on the save icon as
opposed to using <crtl>S, or if I have wandered to some other panel.

[WDSCI-L] Compile button not available

When I have edited a source, the Compile-button on the task bar (with text

'Compile the current source using the last used compile command', the last

button on the toolbar) is not available, even if I previously did a
compile from the iSeries Table view. I have used the button in the past,
but I am not sure when it stopped functioning. Does anyone have a clue?
