Don,
Nope, I checked the hosts file that you referenced and it is not read only.
I'm running XP Pro SP2. It might be something to do with the fact that
we're a Novell shop, so there might be something going on with it. I'm
running 6.0.1 of WDSC. I haven't checked for updates for awhile.
Typically, I've have to get the network folks to temporarily give me an
admin profile password in order to install them. I was assuming that it's
a configuration issue since I've only recently started exploring WDSC over
code/SEU.

Hi Dave,
One of the common reasons for Item #2 is that the Windows hosts file is
read-only. This is usually found in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
or c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts depending on your version of
Windows. Other not so common reasons are that either some security
software is blocking the code from writing to the hosts file or you are
running on a version of Windows not supported with WDSC (and the code
can't find the hosts file correctly). It could also be that you are
running a really old version of CODE?

[WDSCI-L] Getting up to speed with WDSC
Over the past couple of weeks of working on a project I've taken the
opportunity to force myself to start using WDSC for program editing
instead
of the CODE editor or SEU. To my surprise I've actually started to get
used to it and like it. Today, I found myself editing a program and
thinking that I should have copied the original source member first.
Normally in PDM I would go to a different session and copy it. How do I
do
that it WDSC? I tried doing a copy in RSE but that appears to be to the
Windows clipboard.
Item #2:
I seem to recall from a class I had on it that for laying out screens or
reports the CODE Designer is still the way to go to get the visual
feedback
of the end product. In PDM I had user-defined options to launch the CODE
editor or designer for a given source member. In RSE if I right-click the
member and choose "open with" then "code designer I get the message "The
RSE connection AS30 could not be registered with CODE communications" .
What do I need to configure to get this to work? Thanks.
