This is probably a question already asked and answered, but like so much
of RSE finding the answer is an exercise in pain and frustration. I am
trying very hard to wean myself away from PDM. I now find out that IBM
has made it, almost, impossible to do that because of the screen and
print design being relegated to the "Advanced Version". That confuses
me since Screen design and print file design are not WEB related yet the
Advanced Version seems to be geared towards WEB.

I digress. I want to compare 2 different source modules and have hit a
wall called RSE. I right click on a source member and choose Compare
and there is a grayed out "Each Other". I went to HELP and got

 Simple compare

In the Navigator select file1.txt and file2.txt choose Compare With >
Each Other from the context menu.

A dialog will appear indicating that the two files are the same.

I am unable to select a second source member. Just one question--- WHY
DOES EVERYTHING IN RSE HAVE TO BE A CHORE? Nothing is straight forward.
Has the KISS principle been thrown away with the advent of GUI? IN 40
years KISS has always worked the best, from tubes and punch cards to 8"
floppy disks and Remote Batch Processors to Green Screens. (3 years and
counting)

Bill,

if you want to compare or merge two source members in WDSC, take a look
at
the RSE extensions by SoftLanding.

http://www.softlanding.com/websphere/rse.htm

Right-click on a member, choose 'Compare...' or 'Merge...' and you'll
have
what (I think) you want.

Small problem (SURPRISE SURPRISE) I loaded the Softlandings plug-in and
installed it. Then rebooted my PC and had to shut down a hung up RSE
and then start it up again. Now what? I can't find any reference to
Softlandings in RSE. I did however see a reference to my lost Surveyor
plugins, but they don't work.

Why doesn't IBM just publish a notice to the numerous RPG programmers
and tell us they really wish we would retire and go away? This Chinese
water torture isn't much fun.

I have become a source of amusement to the others in this shop who have
watched me struggle with RSE. The question asked by each of then is,
"Why do I want to go through that for a questionable advantage and still
have to use PDM for the ancillary chores such as debugging (can't get it
to work reliably) screen design, print file design, and comparing
sources?
