The problem that has been explained to me by IBM folks on both sides of
the
issue is that the Rational developers want money, and that due to the
structure of IBM, Rational doesn't see any money from System i sales.
Their
solution is to start charging System i developers for tools a la carte,
something we finally got rid of with 5722WDS.

Honestly, I'm having a hard enough time trying to convince my fellow
developers in our shop to use Rational (WDSCi). I like it, but the only
reason I was able to order V7 the other day was because it was "free",
(been on V6 for a while). No way is my boss going to purchase Rational
when a 5250 emulator works just fine....
