Could I please get some commentary on Web Services and secure data
transmission? I have some very sensitive data that will need to go across a
web service and I need to reassure my clients that the data that arrives at
"B" is the same data that started at "A".
Would they be satisfied with having a plain web service using an encrypted transport channel which detects any in-flight alterations.

If so, consider using https with certificate authentification, where both ends are very picky and only will accept the one they know the other end has.
