You can call me Alan, but my real name is Aaron ;-) I gotta get a different
email address that doesn't use my middle initial! :-)
It is truly an epidemic that started out small, but is taking the industry
by storm (my perception). Microsoft is brilliant in many areas, and the one
where they take the cake (and eat it) is in knowing what their customers
want and giving it to them - no matter what the long-term ramifications are.
For example, you can program a simple DB GUI application with Visual Studio
in an hour or less. That hooks A LOT of people and they don't understand
that the same concepts necessary for the 1hr app won't be acceptable for a
much larger application supporting multiple users.
If IBM were smart they would read your post and contact you, and see what
they could do to keep you as a customer. Microsoft gives away many
thousands of consulting hours every year to organizations, so those
organizations can switch to Microsoft products and also fully utilize the
feature sets.

Funny you should mention that Alan. Guess what's on the way out the door
here... the iSeries. Guess what's on the way in the door? SQL Servers, MS
Great Plains, MS Visual Studio. In the next 4 years the iSeries will be
replaced with multiple servers (which is why I laugh), and we will be coding
J#, C#, or .Net. I've already downloaded the trial version of the tool, and
I'm glad I'm used to developing in WDSC, cause it's pretty similar in
design.
We need about 15 SQL servers to do the job of the iSeries..... I can't help
wonder how many Neds there will be lol...
