The key is will they price themselves out of System i shops, or will they
make it palatable based on ROI?
There are two very distinct markets, Green and Grey. I work for a
company that is and will remain Green. There are a few web apps, but
the vast bulk of the work is green screen, RPG III. New work is RPG IV
(mostly) but there are only 2 of us using WDSCi. In my vanity, I like
to imagine this is more typical than not. I mention this because these
shops need to work out their costs based on their staff now, not the
machine as they have in the past. Two markets, two divergent ROI
calculations.
I'm not going to get riled over this. Depending on how the pricing
turns out ('Contact your Business Partner for pricing') it may not be a
big deal at all. I still have more than a year before I can twist the
boss' arm to go to V6R1 anyway...
