No, it's pertinent because RDi and RAD have specific synergy.
Well, they're all built from the same code base (Eclipse) and they share the same installation process (Installation Manager). As to their synergy, it depends. In a perfect world they would be installed into the same code segment and work together as an integrated unit (shell share).

In reality, that's unlikely to happen out of the box. RDi 7.1 and RBD 7.1 should shell share (that's the combination they call RDi-SOA) but others may not. In that case you would have two separate workbenches, one for RDi and one for RAD.

I was mistaken about it being explained in the announcement letter, not about
the fact that it exists. It's actually on the product announcement
page:
Well, if you notice they talk about RDi and RAD separately. There's currently no specific bundling option for the two products and its unlikely that RDi 7.1 will shell share with RAD 7.5. The fact that RAD 7.5 will be based on Eclipse 3.3. makes that very unlikely. It may be that you have to wait for RDi 7.5.

So, to bring this back to the original question, RDi might not support
Eclipse 3.3 or later now, but it will have to in the near future.

I agree. But not because RDi needs it, simply as a byproduct of the underlying code base.
