As to advising people to use Zend Core for production - absolutely - it is a hardened, pre-configured version of the open-source PHP with built-in PTF support etc. If it is mission critical I advise them to get an extended service contract and to consider Platform if performance becomes an issue.
This is what I wanted to know. I was worried that the Zend Core was a development server, kind of like the WAS Test Environment in WDSC or RDi-SOA, and that you needed the for-fee Platform for real production.

IMO you're waffling just a tiny bit with the "mission critical" statement - I mean, what web application do you *not* consider mission critical? Just about everything we discuss on this list is mission critical. But since you do seem to be indicating that Core is still good enough for mission critical, just that a PHP shop would want to spend the upcharge for better support, you're not tap-dancing TOO terribly much <grin>.
