Finally got back to this.  Created a new project using the IFS as the source library.  I was previously attempting to create my package in my workspace, which is why I had nothing there.

Source looks great. I get content assist.  Woo.

And then I tried to compile (build).  Apparently I can't build one source at a time (that I see).  That sucks.  Then I selected Build Project (thinking I was going to build a Package - my bad) so that attempted to build every java source on the IFS.  Boy, I hope that doesn't screw stuff up....

I just did a simple test and WDSC 7.0.0.8 is updating the source out in
the root file system, not making a copy onto my local PC's workspace.

I see you mention a \src directory, but the structure of your project
doesn't seem to have one.  Is it possible that the package statement
doesn't match the actual layout of the project?

When you say '\src won't open' what error are you getting?  You may have
to look in your workspace \.metadata\.log file
