Word defaults to using curly quotes rather than standard straight quotes. 
That's the cause of your problem.  Go into the Autocorrect options (it's in 
the Tools menu in Word 2003, not sure how to find it in Word 2007, since I 
don't have that) and turn off the Replace as you type option for converting 
straight quotes to curly quotes.

Curly quotes are pretty, but they cause all sorts of problems if you paste 
them into other software that's not expecting them.
