Subject: Re: [WDSCI-L] Find in Outline (was Re: Compiling rpg source)
Sam,
It is possible to make the flyover contain links and be clickable. But it sounds like this would not be the best. Because the usage I am seeing here, is that you are using this to navigate to all of the uses of this variable from the outline view. So having a flyover that would disappear once you clicked on one of the uses, would not be as useful as having a view that sticks around so that you can click on the other uses of the same variable.
So I am giving up on the hover and deciding that a "find in outline view"
would be much more useful.
That is what I am going to document in enhancement 8939, Proposed Solution:
When right clicking in Lpex, show an action in the context menu "Find in outline view". Selecting this action will attempt to find a node in the outline view that contains the token at the cursor.

Thank you very much.
If I can make one comment on what you said:

Often, after I have located the variable in the outline view, I want to click on the "where" used references to jump to the code. I'm not sure how a flyover would work for this.

Hi Sam,
I have opened enhancement request 8938 to track the request for a
toolbar button to collapse the outline view. This sounds like a very
simple
thing,
so it should be low-hanging fruit for us.
I have also opened enhancment request 8939 to track the request to
make
it
easier to find the definition of a variable. I have pointed to this
thread
and mentioned some of your suggestions such as find in outline view,
or enhanced context assist.
I am proposing a flyover that would appear when the mouse hovers over
a variable. The flyover would show not only the definition of the
variable but also where it came from.
Of course, getting around to implement this will be subject to
available resource.
I hope this helps,
