Kurt has made an excellent point about job descriptions. I haven't
looked exhaustively but I don't see anyplace in RDp to change the job
description. It would at least be helpful to change it on the compile
command.
I have a "development" job description attached to my user profile so most
of the time I don't have to think about it.
I have customized the RDp compile commands, and created a couple of my own
(CRTSQLRPGM to create a module from an sqlrpgle) with DEBUG defaulted the
way I like and other parameters that we normally change on the compile.
Adding a parameter for JOBD would be a great enhancement. I feel an RFE
coming on...

I use Verifier constantly. I have a need to be constantly changing my
library list (using a library list filter), and the verifier works great
in conjunction with that. I don't know if this next piece changes with
8.5, but I have had to verify (with refresh) on live source in order to
generate an outline that picked up file changes, etc. Having the added
step of requesting a compile with no object is just another step.
At the moment, removing Verifier would be crippling to me because
truthfully, I don't use the RDp compiler. When changing job descriptions
for compiling was explained to me some time ago (probably years, so maybe
it has changed)... it didn't beat switching to PDM, F18, changing the
jobd, then compiling right there.
(ps. Edmund, did you see my notes earlier in this thread about field
attributes showing up as Unknown after a manual refresh of the outline?)

Hi Jon
Believe me, we are well aware of the strong desire of certain people to
run on Macs :-) It turns out that your are in good company and 2 of our
architects run on Macs as well.
As you astutely pointed out, having the RPG rich editing independent of PV
means we can get that function on the Mac without porting those native
DLLs.
1) This is only part of the problem. We need to get all of our
dependencies to support Mac. However I am hearing some good news on this
front.
2) I was under the impression that Program Verifier is still important
functionality. Are you saying that you would get the same error feedback
from compiles and that you don't really see PV as critical function?
How do the rest of you feel about the importance of Program Verifier?

So what we have done is write a parser from scratch that will compute

update the information on each keystroke. We have the flexibility to
improve and add more information that the program verifier did not
compute.
However, it will take a while before we tweak it to behave just like
the compiler.
So this should help in portability and increase the chances of getting a
Mac version?
Please, please - pretty please. I would _love_ to dump WIndows completely.
