The merge feature, when you can use it, does preserve the change dates in
the target member. Lines that are added from source member are treated as
new lines and have today's change date. We also take care to modify as few
sequence numbers as possible although there can always be rippling on a
large merge.

We can always use an RFE to help get this into RSE as well.
