What we have could already be called RDi-Lite, according to IBM Rational - it has a less in it than old WDSC.

This is just fanciful musing on my part. Do you think there would be a demand for a FREE “RDi Lite” product from IBM? (Not suggesting it is ever likely to happen.) If so, what features would you suggest they leave out in this “lite” version?

I come across small organisations and individuals who cannot afford RDP/RDi licences and on-going maintenance. Freelancers are a particular sector within the IBM i community who miss out on the product, (Yet, they could be the biggest levers for wider adoption.) Would “RDi Lite” appeal to these folk? (By posting to this list I realise I am already “preaching to the converted”. The folk who don’t currently use the product are unlikely to be lurking here.)

Would such a free version devoid of, say:
- Screen/Print Designer
- Debug
- COBOL tooling
- i Projects
- Program Verify
still prove appealing? Or do you feel that RPG Next Gen does this already? (The latter has not be updated for some time.)

Would any IBMers care to comment whether this would be technically feasible? (Eclipse is free. Lotus Symphony is free. Data Studio is free. Why not “RDi Lite”?)

Just thinking aloud.
