I would argue strenuously that having to manually "clear the cache" is just a work-around or circumvention for a readily apparent design defect.

A true cache should be totally transparent to the user, and should never require manual intervention, e.g. to tell the sottware to "clear the cache".

This is also a very common design flaw with most (or all?) web browsers.

The software that manages the "cache" should be able to detect changes in the corresponding objects (or files) on the host system, and automatically update the copy in the cache, as and when needed, to match any changes on the host.
