When doing the export of 'Configuration Files for Automatic Distribution',
on the last page of the export there is a checkbox for 'Force Updates'. If
unchecked, then users do not have to import them when they connect to the
system.

My question, can I save my configuration to the iSeries but not force it

Not tried this, but it should be possible. Create a folder in the IFS
and make it a "file share". Map this shared folder to a network drive.
Then Export your RDi config files to this mapped network drive, (IFS
folder).
Works great, as does a thumb drive.
