Saving those dollars on our side of the glass necessarily means the Lab

RDi Lite attracts many newcomers to the fold, those otherwise denied by money-saving bosses. (These folk already do more with less.)

So, RDi gets a foot-hold and gradually erodes SEU/PDM usage. Once the productivity benefits have been demonstrated, the developers argue for the real benefits that RDi Premium offers.

It just gets better and better! (Especially if IBM offers an upgrade discount from Lite to Premium.)

ASIDE: RDi has been around a few years now. I suspect the major development investment for the product has been recouped and the support team in Rational is much smaller these days. It's possible that new licences are now returning a significant profit, such that a price drop could be economically viable. (Of course, with no real competition, IBM can charge what it likes for RDi.) Then again, I'm probably completely off-target!
