Greg,
My boss and my other co-worker are all Microsoft Dot-Net developers, in my department.
Visual Studio install take 1-1/2 hours to install. And because of "Features", polite way to say glitches, they typically have reload every so often. Usually about every 2-6 months. So, in comparison, RDI 9.6 install is lighten fast. Typically takes me 20-minutes or less...
When RDI 9.6 works with no lock-up, it is the BEST Hands-Down. And once in a while it get "confused". Usually a 10-second restart fixes it for me.
So, everything is relative. The new Microsoft guys, often tells me that he wishes that Microsoft would be as reliable as IBM.
Oh well, Microsoft outnumbers the IBM i developers. They are the future, and it is what the colleges are teaching now a days.

PS. I am an old guy, on the IBM platform for over 27-years.

Ken,
Thanks... I'll try the web install. I don't have the time nor the patience to upgrade using the other route.
IBM can blame "old programmers" for not wanting to move to RDi... but I guarantee you the millennials will not be patient enough to tolerate the standard install. It's beyond ridiculous that something takes this long to install in 2018.
Sorry if I'm being "harsh" - but who has the time to spend an entire day just to update a piece of software?
Greg

Greg,
Yes, the extract process takes a while, but it seems to be about 20-minutes for me...
You could also try the web-install instead.

I just recently discovered that I can hit the "TAB" key to indent my **free Code!!! Awesome!
**FREE has now been out for 4-years! <Joy Joy>

I apologize ahead of time... I know this has probably been covered. But is there a SIMPLE document outlining the install/upgrade process from v9.5 to v9.6?
I'm not sure what I downloaded, but ONE of the zip files is going to take an HOUR to extract. Something doesn't seem right. I just need the RPG/Cobol version.
Thx,
Greg
